Introducing My New Author Website

I have a new author website! Wait, what? Most of you know me as a former dancer, personal training, group fitness and yoga instructor and maybe even a purse designer with an etsy store. And you know I write blogs but did you know I am also an author? That I actually wrote a book? Actually three books?

Yes, yes I did. And not children’s books like some of my blog posts. But books for adults, books that can be categorized as book club fiction, or multicultural fiction or women’s fiction. And this year, back in January, I signed with a literary agent, Rachel Brooks from BookEnds Literary Agency!

Here’s my author photo for now (and yes, Pinot had to be in it. Lokie was too but she ran away at the last minute):

author website

FYI for those not in the publishing world – it is now virtually impossible to be traditionally published without an agent. You must have an agent who will then submit your book to publishing houses, especially the Big 5 (Penguin Random House, Hachette, HarperCollins, Simon & Schuster and MacMillan). But finding an agent is hard. You query and query, hoping your book will stand out in the agents’ slush piles.

It took me 3.5 years from the first query I sent out to signing with my agent. For this reason, I didn’t tell many people that I wrote. It felt like a dirty secret because I couldn’t justify all the time I spent writing with nothing to show for it. So often, writers feel like this but now, with social media and especially the #writingcommunity on twitter, writers don’t have to suffer alone anymore. I’ve found a community of writers and can finally open up and tell my friends and family that yes, I am a writer.

I transported my blog onto my new author website and lost all my subscribers. If you still want to read my funny and touching (un-funny? un-touching?) posts like A Tale of Two Dachshunds and a Little Boy , please consider subscribing again. The Subscribe to Lyn’s Blog box is to the right of this page (or under the posts if you are reading this from your phone).

And to get news of events like book signings, giveaways, etc, sign up for my newsletter – at the top of every page (this is different from the blog. You’ll only get an email when there are events and news). Because I have some exciting news that I can hopefully share soon!

Can’t wait to see what the rest of this year brings!

Cheers,

Lyn (AUTHOR! Who has also been/still is a ballet and modern dancer, concert pianist, gym and fitness studio owner, personal trainer, fitness instructor, yoga teacher, purse designer and all around dachshund obsessed person. And no, I’m not an over-achiever.)

A book is a window to life, of the author as well as of the reader. Your life has been multifaceted, rich and interesting. I look forwards to reading your books.
