What To Do In Poughkeepsie, NY?

Recently, Jim and I found ourselves in the position of having to go to the Poughkeepsie County Court House to get a document.  Why in the world would we have to go to Poughkeepsie, NY which is an hour away from our house?  Don’t ask.  Or you can ask, but it’s a long story that I will probably eventually share once the long story is nearing its conclusion.

Anyways, since we had to drive an hour, I googled What to do in Poughkeepsie so we could at least make it a “date”, rather than a car trip to get a document that’s part of a story too long to get into now.  I knew Vassar College was in Poughkeepsie, but what else does this city boast?

The first thing to pop up was Walkway Over the Hudson, a 1.28 mile pedestrian walkway elevated over the Hudson River.  Jim and I like to walk, so we thought it would be fun to walk over the Hudson, and then grab lunch before heading home.

This is a shot of the Hudson River from the Walkway.

And here’s a shot on the Walkway.  Can you find Jim in this picture?  (Hint – he’s not wearing pink)

Poughkeepsie

How about this one?  (Hint – he’s not the one sitting down)

Poughkeepsie

It was a lovely walk.  My only complaint is that the railings are so high that for someone who is vertically challenged like myself, all I saw was the top of the railing.  I either had to go on tippy toes to see over the railing,

Poughkeepsie

or else I had to duck down and look between the rails.

Yes, those are my orange toes, not Jim’s.  You can’t see, but I was wearing a shirt with hot pink on it, which clashed horribly with the orange toes.  I am always pleasantly surprised when I manage to coordinate my outfit with my toe color.  Aren’t you?

After walking, we found a cute cafe called Lola’s under the Walkway, and had a most delicious lunch.  I got the Spicy Peanut Noodle Bowl, and Jim got the Short Rib Grilled Cheese.  Both were incredibly yummy.  I was going to take a picture to show you, but we dove into the food as soon as it arrived and it wasn’t until they were in our tummies that I remembered I wanted to take a picture.

We drove home, happy with our impromptu date, and then prepped and painted one of our back decks for the rest of the night.

Don’t you end all your dates with a home improvement project?

Hmmm… Maybe I should try a home improvement project as the end of a date.
