Dachshund Sweaters Don’t Always Stay on Lokie

My two dachshunds do not like wearing clothes.  They’d rather be naked.  The first time I put a coat on Pinot, she refused to move and stayed in one spot for over half an hour until I took it off.  Over the years, she’s learned to tolerate them, and I bought dachshund sweaters for her, and for Lokie when she joined our family.

But Lokie somehow always managed to take off her sweater when we weren’t looking.  I finally caught her on video. Here she is, looking pretty in a pink sweater my parents bought her.

And here she is, caught on video, trying to take it off.  She doesn’t quite get the sweater all the way off so it looked like she was wearing a pair of hot pants. (Please ignore my thumb in the corner of the video.)

I put the sweater back on her, turned my back and then managed to get her on video taking the sweater all the way off.  So that’s how the little stinker does it!

She looked really proud of herself.  After sniffing the sweater, she left it in the grass and ran off.

Once again, I put the sweater back on her (since it was 10 degrees out) and then pretended not to look at her to see what she would do this time. Looks like she found a new way to take off that sweater.

Pinot, the pink giraffe, did not look amused by Lokie’s antics.  I for one, am impressed that Lokie managed to run that fast with a sweater over her back legs and didn’t trip and fall on her face.  If that were me, guaranteed I’d fall down and get all tangled up, instead of gracefully exiting the sweater like Lokie did, while running fast and attempting to attack Pinot.

I finally wised up and found a shop on etsy, Warm Weenies Dachshund Sweaters and Harnesses by a wonderful woman named Susan, who makes custom dachshund sweaters that actually fit and that the little stinkers can’t take off.  I ordered one each for Pinot and Lokie.

Lokie has so far not succeeded in taking off her Warm Weenies sweater.  So if you have a dachshund who likes to strip and take off their clothes too, visit Warm Weenies and have her make a custom sweater for your wiener dog.

Otherwise, they start to try all sorts of fashion trends, like this strapless dress Lokie is sporting.

Lokie says you can have it! Maybe Warm Weenies can make you a human one – lol.

Our old Ruby who passed away last year was convinced her warm coat was a straight-jacket and she would either freeze or walk sideways like a crab in it. Too funny but we had to give up putting it on her.

Alice is happy to wear one but Nana knitted on a little too tight, we got it on one time but couldn’t get it off – we had to cut it off her 🙂

You had me laughing out loud with the mental picture of Ruby walking sideways like a crab and Alice having to be cut out of her sweater!

I actually laughed out loud. Too funny. I wanted to thank you, Lyn, for the kind words about WarmWeenies sweaters. Sorry it took so long to respond… been unwell and the shop has not been up and running for weeks. I’m back, but taking it “easy”… wool doggie sweaters don’t sell this time of year in the Northern Hemisphere anyhooo. 🙂

So glad your shop is up and running again and hope you are feeling better! Yes, you’re right – those hot dogs want no part of wool sweaters right now – lol. But soon enough they will need them again!
