Happy 5th Wedding Anniversary to Us

5 years ago today, on a glorious fall day, I got to put on a fancy white dress and marry my fireman.

5th wedding anniversary

Okay, well, it wasn’t a glorious fall day.  In fact, it thundered and rained cats and dogs, so hard that many guests were late.  And kind of put a damper on our outdoor ceremony.  Plus I had bronchitis and could barely speak.  But I did get to wear the gorgeous white dress and I did marry my fireman.  Happy 5th wedding anniversary Jim!

Despite the weather, our wedding day was still the most beautiful, fun day for us.  The rain stopped for the one hour we were taking pictures outside.  Our photographer, Dave Cross, is a brilliant photographer (in fact, he did my headshots when I was still dancing professionally) and he got some great shots despite the gray day.

I was still commuting to the city for work at that time, so we decided to take pictures on the train platform.  No one expected a train to actually roar through the station right at that moment.  All Jim and I heard was, don’t move!

We didn’t move.

Still not moving.

Pinot was a big part of the day (Lokie hadn’t been born yet at that time).

One could point out that I am kissing Pinot and not Jim and it should be all about Jim on our wedding day.  But I think Jim was resigned, even then, that it’s usually all about Pinot in our family.

This is my favorite picture of us from that day.

We got married at Crabtree’s Kittle House and they set up a tent for us so the outdoor ceremony was saved.  Many of our guests told us the sound of the rain on the tent made the ceremony more magical (I wonder if they were just saying that to make us feel better?).  We were also told that rain on a wedding day is good luck (I also wonder if that was made up by someone to make couples married on a rainy day feel better).

My voice came back enough so that I could say I do.  My friends Heather and Katie did an Irish jig with me in honor of my new Irish family.  I wore one of my mom’s wedding outfits for the dance.

But the best thing about the day was being surrounded by our friends and family as Jim and I made our commitments to each other and celebrated our love.  These 2 videos of our wedding really captured the best moments of that night.

On this 5th wedding anniversary, I am thankful for finding someone to share my life with who is the first person I want to talk to when something good or bad happens.  I love you my fireman!

Happy 5th Anniversary. You carried the weather with you so the rain didn’t spoil your day. I love the pitter patter or rain too, so I bet I would have felt the magic too! The photos are very beautiful especially the ones taken on the platform. I particularly love the second shot where the train is zooming by so fast. But again it scares me because you were so close….I would have probably bolted. What a coincidence, about four young boys from my son’s school want to become firemen. They talk about it with so much passion, it’s unbelievable. I wish you a happy weekend. My best regards to your fireman and Pinot too!
